Climate change could make tropical rainforests too hot for photosynthesis, leading to their collapse, warns a new study. Data from the International Space Station shows a small but growing percentage of tree leaves are nearing the maximum temperature for photosynthesis. A rise of 7.2 F (4 C) could push these forests beyond a tipping point, causing mass tree death, disrupting Earth’s climate systems and biodiversity.
