Astronomers find abundance of Milky Way–like galaxies in early universe, rewriting cosmic evolution theories

Using the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), researchers have discovered that galaxies similar to the Milky Way are more common in the universe than previously thought. This finding, which suggests these galaxies formed nearly 10 billion years ago, challenges existing theories about the universe’s evolution. The study reveals that disk galaxies are ten times more prevalent than earlier estimates based on Hubble Space Telescope observations. This discovery implies a need for new theories about galaxy formation and the role of dark matter in the early universe.
