Researchers at Tsinghua University have developed an AI system that can generate efficient urban layouts, outperforming human designs by about 50%. The AI model, designed to support the concept of a 15-minute city, can compute certain planning tasks in seconds that would take human planners up to 100 minutes. While the system is currently limited to small urban areas, it could potentially be scaled up, serving as an assistant to human planners and freeing them to focus on more complex tasks.
