Google has unveiled its latest home entertainment device, the Google TV Streamer, priced at $99.99. This new set-top box is designed to replace the Chromecast, offering enhanced performance with a 22% faster processor, double the RAM, and 32GB of storage. It introduces several notable features, including Thread and Matter integration for smart home connectivity, a remote finder, and built-in ethernet. Unlike its predecessor, the Google TV Streamer is not a dongle and requires an external HDMI cable. It also supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, maintains the ability to cast content, and is one of the first streaming devices to be powered over USB-C.
The device, available in two colors, is designed to be placed visibly beneath the TV, integrating seamlessly with home decor. It includes a redesigned remote with improved volume buttons, a customizable button, and a remote finder feature. On the software side, Google incorporates Gemini AI for enhanced content summaries and reviews, alongside the familiar Google TV interface which offers personalized recommendations.
Scheduled for release on September 24th, the Google TV Streamer aims to provide a smoother user experience and smart home management from the comfort of one’s couch, potentially positioning itself as a strong competitor to the Apple TV 4K.
