At the Def Con hacking conference, security researcher Jae Bochs demonstrated a device that could trigger pop-up messages on iPhones, prompting users to share their Apple ID or password. The device, made from a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W, two antennas, a Bluetooth adapter, and a battery, exploited Apple’s Bluetooth low energy protocols. While Bochs’ device didn’t collect data, he suggested that a similar device could potentially retrieve phone numbers, Apple ID emails, and Wi-Fi network information if users interacted with the prompts.
